Slaying the Addiction Monster is filled with information including the latest scientific research by leading addiction researchers, information on how to perform an intervention, information on the teen brain (yes they really are different from us)how to tell if you’re an enabler, signs to look for if you suspect your child is using drugs. There is also heartfelt advice from parents who have been through this.
This is not a pedantic piece of literature but is an honestly written book on the problem of drug addiction in our society today. Read what other parents have to say who have lived with an addicted child. They open their hearts to you and tell you what they wish they had known before their own children succumbed to the Addiction Monster.
It also contains excerpts from I Am Your Disease (The Many Faces of Addiction)which features stories by 40 parents telling of their struggles and heartache dealing with an addicted loved one. You will see that you’re not alone in this battle.

As the director of Novus Medical Detox, we see the wreckage caused by prescription drugs on a daily basis. As Ms. McGinnes so clearly points out, addiction causes grief not only for the addicted person but also for the family. This “monster” sucks away retirement funds and bankrupts the families of the addicted ones who want only to help their addicted children.
This is a book that all parents should read and show to their children. From the stories told by the parents of these addicted ones who did not survive their addiction do we see and understand that the wounds caused by addiction never truly heal.
