This is a must read for anyone who has ever lived with an addict in their family. Al-Anon should adopt this book as standard reading material for the Al-Anon family group.

I purchased several books on this subject and, BY FAR, THIS WAS THE BEST. In a clear, concise manner, it provides the reader with a comprehensive understanding of common behaviors and helpful guidance on moving toward recovery. Not a wasted word in the book. Many good references throughout. [...].

I very recently discovered about my adult son's alcohol and prescription drug addiction. This book helped immensely in dealing with what this means, what to expect, and the little that I can do to improve his disease (as well as the many things I could easily and ignorantly do to worsen it).

Direct, informative, must read for anyone who knows an addict. Education is so important when trying to cope and understand the behavior associated with addiction. You will no longer be able to deny the problem after reading this book.

I thought this was excellent. I have recommended it to several people. This book will stay on my shelf. If you are trying to understand the craziness an addict can create in the family and how addiction affects so many people in the addicts circle of family and friends, this is a great book.
